AIS teams do 5G test show Control cranes to lift containers in Laem Chabang Port The real use case in the logistics industry, EEC area

AIS reinforces the country's no.1 leader in network and technology innovation, test the adoption of 5G technology in the port facility business on 30 January 2020. Crane operators can control cranes to lift up and down the containers remotely via 5G network at the Hutchison Ports Thailand in Laem Chabang Port, Sriracha District, Chonburi Province, which is the first successful case of the operator in Thailand and Southeast Asia under the support of the NBTC. This testing will show a significant role in supporting to manage the transportation of goods in commercial ports more efficiently, which as one of the digital infrastructure development projects led by 5G technology that was created by the private sector that continues collaboration to support The Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) to push the Laem Chabang Port into a gateway in Thailand and holds the center of logistics, trade, and investment for ASEAN countries in the future.

Mr. Hui Weng Cheong, Chief Operating Officer, AIS said "AIS,as the no.1 leader in network and technology innovation, moves forward to enhance the capabilities of every industry to the next level. From the Use Case that testing in all regions and multiple industrial sectors in the past, we therefore are able to set the foundation of the main network infrastructure to prepare and support the 5G technology continuously, such as the test of 5G Remote Driving to the test for utilization in the industrial sector with SCG to support the operation inside the factory, which successfully controls unmanned via remote from the remote control center to factories located in the areas outside the city.

At this time, AIS tested a new use case with 5G technology for control cranes installed in various areas within the port from the remote control room by helping the crane operators to switch the control of each crane to lift up and down the containers independently and immediately by using the signal to control the crane from the control room via the AIS 5G network toward the crane that installed in the port by bringing the excellent features of 5G in terms of Speed and Latency that are fit to apply in the transportation and logistics industry which will improve management of cranes to lift up and down the containers with enhanced efficiency. This port is located on the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), which will be a model for the logistics industry to recognize the benefits of 5G technology and can be applied in practice in the future. This cooperation marks the first time that 5G technology will be used in commercial port operations in Thailand and Southeast Asia, besides AIS intending to bring 5G technology to practical use in the business sector and various industries."
